Otto Jacket Fabric

This is the fabric I've purchased for the boys' jackets. The top two fabrics are Supplex, "Chrome" on the left, and "Twighlight Blue" on the right. The blue is an interesting color. It seems to photograph darker than it is, but it's a fairly bright blue, yet it changes color a bit. It's a nice color. The Chrome is a very light gray.

The bottom fabric is sweatshirt fleece I picked up at Hancock's this week. It's a darker gray, but I think it will work with the other colors just fine.

I still need to purchase zippers and thread!

Jackets for the Boys

I've decided to make jackets for the boys this year, using the Ottobre Design 3/07 #12 "Outdoor jacket with seal embroidery". I plan to size up a bit so they can hopefully wear them this winter AND next winter. This jacket has elastic on the ends of the sleeves, so I think it'd work ok for the sleeves to be a bit long.

I've never made a lined jacket before, so it is a bit scary, and the Ottobre directions are quite good but a tiny bit confusing without pictures, but I'm sure I'll muddle through it ok. :)

I bought some Supplex fabric and it should arrive in another day or two. I got "twilight blue" and "chrome" (a light silvery gray). The blue will be the main fabric. I've thought about putting a German Shepherd embroidery on the back instead of a seal, although my oldest son says he wants the seal. We'll see. Maybe if I find a good GSD head and show it to him, he might change his mind. ;)

I still need to find some lining fabric. I will probably use sweatshirt fleece. I also need to get zippers. I plan to omit the front pockets on this coat (I will put the pocket flaps so it looks like there are pockets). My kids don't use jacket pockets, and certainly won't need front pockets like those.

I've measured my older son so far, and plan to do a size 110, lengthened to a 122. He currently wears a US size 5, but will likely be a size 6 by the end of winter, as he's barely a 5 right now. I still need to measure my younger son. He's much more wiggly! :)

First Post

I've created this blog to share my sewing projects. I enjoy sewing for the kids and myself, and I tend to sew anything and everything I can think of - cloth diapers, baby carriers, clothes, and random household items. I look forward to sharing my creations, including my trials and my triumphs! I may occasionally stick a tutorial in here as well.

Now time to go sew!
